Maximum safety: Five stars for the MAXUS eTERRON 9

  • First all-electric pickup with the highest Euro NCAP rating
  • Top values for occupant and pedestrian protection
  • High-strength structure, optimised front section and comprehensive assistance systems

Kontich, 4 December 2024. The MAXUS eTERRON 9 - the first all-electric pickup with all-wheel drive as standard in Europe and distributed by Astara in Belgium, Luxembourg and Germnay - has achieved the highest rating of five stars in the Euro NCAP safety programme. The new model from the Chinese manufacturer is the first electric pickup to receive this award since the introduction of the new Euro NCAP test programme in 2020. The eTERRON 9 achieved top scores in the two key categories of occupant protection and pedestrian protection.

In terms of occupant protection for adults, the eTERRON 9 achieved a score of 91 - a value that is not surpassed by any other pickup in the five-star category. The eTERRON 9 also achieved a new best score of 84 points for pedestrian protection, making it the only vehicle in its class to achieve this level of safety.

Optimum crash safety on its own electric platform

Based on a special electric platform, the eTERRON 9 offers advanced safety features, comprehensive driver assistance systems, a robust structure and state-of-the-art technologies that provide optimum protection for both passengers and pedestrians. The ultra-high-strength steel-aluminium hybrid cage body, which has a proportion of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel of over 73 percent, contributes to the high level of crash safety. The ladder frame and self-supporting body are connected to form a complex unit in order to optimally distribute the energy generated in the event of a collision.

During the development of the eTERRON 9, sufficient protection for the other vehicle in the event of a collision was also taken into account from the outset. This is also one of the requirements of the current Euro NCAP test procedure. Simulation analyses and experimental methods were used to examine all influencing factors in detail and develop a structure that provides the best possible protection for the opposing vehicle and the survival space of its passengers.

Special front section for better pedestrian protection

The eTERRON 9 also achieved top marks in the pickup segment for pedestrian protection. The three-layer panel cavity structure in the radiator grille area and the crumpled structure of the L-shaped bonnet, which reduce the risk of head and leg injuries, make a particular contribution to this.

"The eTERRON 9's five-star rating from Euro NCAP is a testament to MAXUS' commitment to safety and innovation," said Utz Rachner, Country Manager Germany, SAIC MAXUS Europe . "As the first electric pickup with this award, the eTERRON 9 not only sets new standards, but also strengthens MAXUS' position as a pioneer in the field of electric vehicles."
